What a ride
It’s been almost exactly two years since when Downtown Club first launched in Early Access, on June 14th 2024. Since then, there have been roughly 150 changelog entries split between new features, improvements, and fixes. That number doesn’t account for the few generic entries that were just a summary for dozens of smaller, but still important fixes and updates. Cherry on top, I’ve just landed a fix that solved a massive performance issue that was haunting the game since the very beginning, just a few days before Full Release. Whew!
I am quite happy about the state of Downtown Club today, considering I carried a ton of work alone and spent an indecent amount of hours on this project almost every day of my life for the past five years. It’s funny because I used to say “we’re just getting started” back in 2024, but I totally feel like we’re just getting started once again… In fact from now on, it’s going to be mostly pure content updates: new cars, new maps and new suits, but we also have plans for several other features. And let’s not forget the ports for Steam Frame (where’s my devkit?) and Nintendo Switch- I am really looking forward to those, especially the latter, to be honest.
My head is filled with thoughts, but at the same time it feels empty. I wanted to write a proper Dev Diary to go with the Full Release, but I confess I am enjoying a bit of quiet as am I writing this (June 6th)! The launch build was already uploaded and approved some days ago, I have time to prepare all the social posts without pressure, and still have some time to spare for me. In fact, pardon me now but I’m going to enjoy some Mina The Hollower…
But as you read this it’s already June 11th, so you might find me playing Downtown Club online with the community to celebrate the Full Release. And so, see you on the racetrack!
